A. Yes. Disabled employees must be otherwise qualified. To be otherwise qualified means that the employee: meets all the prerequisites for the position (education, experience, skills, licenses, etc.) and can perform all of the job’s essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Employers are not required to remove essential functions or lower performance standards due to an employee’s disability. Employers are required to remove non-essential functions, however. Check out our ADA Toolkit for more information on this subject.
