Partner with MSEC if you are considering sponsoring a foreign worker.
There are only 85,000 H-1Bs available each federal fiscal year, and there are always more applications submitted than what is available. Last year approximately 236,000 petitions were filed and entered into a lottery for processing. If you want to sponsor a foreign worker for H-1B, it’s time to get started!
Here are three things you need to know about the H1-B filing period:
- FY2018 H-1B filing will start on April 3 and will last until April 7. The lottery process will take place shortly after that.
- The lottery process is completely random. H-1B cases selected in the lottery and later approved will take effect on October 1. F-1 international students will be able to receive incremental cap-gap employment authorization through September 30.
- H-1B is normally granted for a total of 6 years: 3 years initially, renewable for another 3 years. The 6-year maximum is per person, not per employer, and it may be extended in certain cases.
